Jake and Ahmad welcome other musicians to join them on the porch.
More on Jake Hoffman - Jake is schooled in traditional music and his specialties are old-time, bluegrass, country, folk and rock n roll. He sings and plays banjo, guitar, upright bass and ukulele. Jake studied clawhammer banjo with Bruce Molsky and graduated from Vassar College in Cultural Geography with a minor in Music. His first touring band, The Powder Kegs, won a 2007 talent contest live on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. He has toured nationally and internationally with Tumbling Bones, a vocal-centric folk band combining old-time, bluegrass and rock n roll. They were chosen as U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors to perform and teach in Eastern Europe in 2014 & 2015. He grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and has been living in Portland, Maine since 2009.
He loves to square dance and swing dance, and he leads old-time jams in the Portland area. He’s a sucker for scratchy field recordings, and he still wants to learn to play the fiddle and piano.
